Single release closing in

The Magical Machines single is due for release next week. We're actually not sure exactly which day it will be available on iTunes and Klicktrack, but we'll let you know as soon as we know.

To celebrate the release, Wonderland records is throwing a fabulous party at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg on the 13th of December. We will play, along with fellow Wonderland record releasing artists Jesper and Convoj. A release party for three bands at the same time! :)

And as if that's not enough, you're in for an early christmas present if you join the party early. Everyone who shows up before Jesper starts his gig at 8pm will get one of those much sought after Spotify invites! Considering that you'll have to fork out 99SEK a month for Spotify without an invite, this alone will give you your money's worth.

More details coming shortly.

Vintage gear

Here's the clip mentioned in the last post, Thomas playing the Minimoog, which in turn is placed on top of the Mellotron. No doubt it would have been easier to use software instruments, and no doubt most people wouldn't have heard the difference, but this is way cooler... :)

Btw, the track being recorded is a new song called The Morning After, written by drummer Nicola, with some joint efforts on the lyrics with me.

A very productive weekend

We had a fantastic weekend in Svenska Grammofonstudion, and got a lot of work done. Petter and Nico pretty much nailed it, in the first day we had all six bass/drum tracks laid down! The Sunday was spent recording lead vocals, some additional vocals by Lisa, a few keyboard tracks, and a trumpet (huge thanks to Johan "Lillebror" Angenete for popping in to do this on extremely short notice!).

The keyoard collection at SGS is really amazing, and Thomas was like a child at Christmas, among all the vintage gear. He finally settled on the Mellotron and the Minimoog, both ancient relics (look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about, it's way cool). I'm trying to upload a short clip of him playing the Minimoog. If I succeed, I will put it up here. If not, well, you'll just have to wait for the album.

Hope to catch some of you in Malmö on Friday!

Recording again

This weekend we're entering Svenska Grammofon Studion in Gothenburg, to start recording the last few tracks for our debut. As you may know, and as we've written here before, the long-awaited EP is morphing into a full-length album, due to us signing to Wonderland Records.

We'll be recording six tracks. Two of them have been premiered at previous gigs (We Don't Want Your Help and Kill Your Darlings), but four are brand new, two tracks by me (Johan) and two tracks by Nicola. We're quite excited about the new stuff, and we're sure you'll be too. :)

Next week we're off for Malmö, yay! Catch us at Nya Tröls next Friday, when we're teaming upp with the excellent Emerald Park, as special guests at their release party. We're playing a full set, which will also be the first live gig featuring Jesper, our brand new, pretty boy guitar player.

More details about the gig can be found at our Facebook event or Myspace profile. See you there!

Signed to Wonderland Records!

We have all heard the stories:
  • Record companies are the roots of all evil in the world.
  • Managers are put on this planet to suck artists dry and decieve them in any way they can.
  • The music business is dead.
And now over to the latest Swedish for Beginners- news:
  • We have signed a record deal with Swedish independent label Wonderland Records. The single "Magical Machines" will be released by the end of October and our debut album in February 2009.
  • We have signed a management deal with Sebastian Hess, owner of Wonderland Records.
  • We will, in close collaboration with Sebastian and Wonderland, do our utmost to prove to the world that good music is good music and that good music will survive any economical crash, any recession and any US election.

Losing Petter

Saturday night at Sticky Fingers, and as usual, when Petter is a bit drunk, we lose him. Hope he made it home. Anyway, the band - Universal Poplab - were great, check them out if you haven't already. Brilliant synthpop.

And, of course, you're all eager to see our new guitar player, Jesper. So without further ado, boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, here he is:

Crying blood

A while back we had a post here on the SFB-blog about the mighty Mike Patton and his Mondo Cane project. He has since been doing some touring, performing the set with different orchestras, and a few weeks ago he hit Malmö, Sweden. Which is wonderful, of course. Except that none of us could make it ("us" meaning the MP fans of SFB, me, Thomas, and Petter). Which is a disaster. I've been crying blood, consoling myself with this beautiful live recording. Enjoy!

Update: Alas, the video has been removed. But you know how to do a search on YouTube, right?

What was the last thing the drummer said?

We promised you some exciting news a while back, and we're busy making it come true. For now, let's just say that the long awaited EP will probably be a full-length instead! Lots of new songs in the works, not only written by me (Johan) but also by our drummer Nico. (What was the last thing the drummer said? "Hey, why don't we play one of my songs?")

It's so much fun mocking drummers. :D
